Pros and Cons of Blogging

There are many different pros and cons of blogging you might consider if you have a business and you are considering implementing the new Web 2.0 technologies.  These include giving the users ownership, increasing traffic, adding inbound links, and much more.

The biggest benefit of using a blog is that you give ownership to visitors of the site.  When a user has the capability of posting their own thoughts and information to a blog they feel they own the site in a way.  This instantly gives them a sense of power and creates a returning user.  The ownership can be a problem when anyone has the ability to post to the site though.  Some people post to any blog they find open to the public.  You may be selling bathtubs but have a blogger that constantly posts about artificial Christmas trees.  If you aren’t paying attention then posts like this can screw up your site and where it is listed in the search engines.  Irrelevant data can cause you to be listed under an artificial Christmas tree search and not bath items.  You have to pay attention to public blog sites and keep them cleaned up from spammer bloggers.

Increasing traffic is an excellent benefit to a blog site.  Some people think that any traffic is good traffic.  This is only the case if you really do not have a product or service and you are just making money on pay per click advertising on bogus sites that mean nothing and do nothing for the users.  These sites may talk about an artificial Christmas tree but you cannot buy one from them.  They will just make money on you when you click on the link.

Traffic coming from blog sites is good traffic because the users are already aware of the products and services you offer.  This is why it is very important to always integrate your URL in any blog you have on your site.  This will give readers of your blog an easy way to access your online business without having to search for you or figure out your business name if you forgot to post it in the blog.  URLs also give you an inbound link which is an extra for ranking with the search engines.

Inbound links are very important also.  As they work with the search engines and the ranks.  Your site rank is based on many things which includes the traffic and the inbound links.  The site rank is your popularity on the web.  Your popularity is based on how many people have you listed as a favorite and how many people visit your site.  Inbound links are counted as a favorite and a permanent link.

There are many pros and cons of blogging and the Web 2.0 functionalities.  There are more positives than negatives by far.  The only thing you need to keep in mind is that you need to spend time cleaning off the irrelevant postings by people trying to advertise their business.  Also, always make the most use of a blog and integrate your URL for easy access.
